- You are allowed to use driveway to perform a three-point turn. If you decide to use driveway, you should stop your car before the pedestrian footpath. You must avoid going inside the private property.
- An amber-coloured traffic light (Yellow Light), vehicles should stop unless it is unsafe to do so. It is crucial to check your internal and external mirrors just before approaching the intersection with the traffic light. We need to make sure we do all safety checks before stopping at amber light.
- Learner driver who wishes to do drive test in their own vehicle, ensure that the handbrake is accessible to the driver in the front passenger seat, all vehicles should have a centrally mounted handbrake. Vehicles with foot operated or electric park brakes are not allowed to be used for solo drive tests.
- All navigation devices, speed warning devices, and cruise control should be turned off during the drive test. Other safety features such as reverse cameras and parking sensors should also be left on.
- Reverse Parallel Parking, in order to pass the test, you must park in no more than four vehicle movements and within 2 minutes. You are also required to reverse only 7 meters from the vehicle in front. This distance is measured from the rear of the parked car to the front of the learner’s vehicle.
- If the learner travels at a speed of less than 10 km/h or less than speed limit for a significant portion of the test, a critical error will be recorded. This would be considered too slow unless the conditions of the road or the traffic conditions make it impossible to travel at the speed limit.
- Disobeying directions (three times) would lead to immediate termination.
- The maximum speed that a learner driver can be asked to drive during the drive test is 80 km/h. This is unless the testing centre is in a geographical location that has a speed limit of at least 100 km/h. It is highly recommended that all new drivers practice driving on a highway.
- In order to protect children and other pedestrians, drivers should not stop their vehicles in a way that blocks the pedestrian’s path or a marked foot crossing. However, it may be necessary to do so in certain cases. For instance, in some cases, it is necessary to stop the first vehicle to allow a better view of approaching traffic in order to cross the street safely. An immediate termination error will be recorded if the driver stops his vehicle at a location that blocks a pedestrian’s path or a pedestrian takes evasive action.
- At any point during the driving test, going over the speed limit is an instant failure. During the first few weeks of a learner’s driving course, it is important that the new driver regularly drives below the speed limit (5km buffer). Doing so will help prevent him or her from going over the limit while they are still paying attention to other factors. Another important rule that new drivers must follow is that they must only increase their speed once they have passed the speed limit sign.
